Short-Term Scientific Mission Grant (STSMs)

What are STSM Grants?

STSMs are short research visits that enable researchers and innovators to carry out a specific task in a host institution located in another COST country participating in the Action. They are designed to support mobility, strengthen networks, and foster collaboration across Europe and beyond.

Objectives

• Facilitate the exchange of knowledge, methods, and techniques.

• Build and strengthen collaboration between institutions and research groups.

• Support the professional development of young and early-career researchers.

• Contribute directly to the objectives of the Action.

Who Can Apply?

STSMs are open to:

PhD students, postdoctoral fellows, and senior researchers.

• Applicants must be affiliated with an institution located in a COST Country or a Near Neighbour Country (NNC).

Duration

Minimum: 1 calendar days; Maximum: 90 calendar days

• For Early Career Investigators (ECIs): up to 180 calendar days

Financial Support

• Fixed contribution to travel, accommodation, and subsistence expenses.

• Maximum amount: EUR 4,000 per STSM.

• Please note: this is not a salary but a contribution to costs.

How to Apply

Applications must be submitted through the e-COST platform.

Required documents include:

1. A work plan with objectives, description of the work, and expected outcomes.

2. Curriculum Vitae (CV).

3. Letter of acceptance/invitation from the host institution.

Applications are evaluated by the Management Committee (MC) of the Action based on scientific merit, relevance to the Action, and contribution to inclusiveness.

After the STSM

• The grantee must submit a scientific report within 30 days after the end of the mission.

• The report must describe the work carried out, main results, and benefits for the Action.

• Final approval by the Management Committee is required before the grant can be paid.
