Training School on Databases and Registries Strengthens the Delve-into-Pneumocystis Network

The Training School on the Development of Databases and Registries, held in Seville (Spain) from 19–21 February 2025, provided participants with practical training in data management and research coordination. The course strengthened the methodological basis of COST Action CA23142, supporting the creation of shared databases and collaborative clinical registries.

From 19 to 21 February 2025, a Training School on the development of databases and registries took place in Seville, Spain, providing participants with hands-on experience in data management, clinical research design, and funding strategies within the framework of COST Action CA23142 Delve-into-Pneumocystis.

The event gathered 16 participants, most of them early-career researchers, under the guidance of senior trainers Dr. Jonás Carmona Pires, Dr. Antonio Vallejo, and Dr. Vicente Friaza, all from the Institute of Biomedicine of Seville (IBiS). The programme combined interactive lectures, practical group work, and mentoring sessions, designed to build methodological and analytical skills relevant to the Action’s objectives.

The Training School introduced participants to the creation and management of clinical databases and registries, as well as to systematic review and meta-analysis methodologies, key tools for evidence-based research. Afternoon sessions focused on funding opportunities, covering national, European, Latin American, and international sources, and concluded with open discussions to foster collaboration and knowledge exchange.

This intensive three-day course enhanced participants’ competencies in database design, clinical trial planning, and research coordination, directly supporting Working Group 1 (WG1) activities. The experience also strengthened the methodological foundation of the COST Action, facilitating the development of shared data infrastructures that will underpin future collaborative studies on Pneumocystis and related respiratory infections.
